With rookie/prospect tournaments in full swing, players are looking to put their best foot forward prior to the beginning of NHL training camps to show their teams that they're ready to take the next step. For some, it means amping up the offense. For others, it means bringing an extra bit of ferocity to their game. The latter was the case for Artem Guryev and Samuel Helenius.
The Sharks and Kings are among 6 teams with teams in Las Vegas, Nevada to take part in the Golden Knights' rookie tournament. The other 3 teams are th Ducks, Coyotes and Avalanche. During a Friday afternoon matchup between the Sharks and Kings, LA's Helenius (6'6, 216 lbs) dropped the gloves with SJ's Guryev (6'4, 220 lbs) in a true battle of the heavyweights. These two did not disappoint either.
Helenius, the bigger of the two prospects, landed some heavy shots, but appeared to gas out a little earlier than Guryev, who continued to throw bombs as Helenius attempted to tie him up. Many of the blows were glancing shots, but the altercation ended with both players having landed some stiff punches and both men remaining on their feet, which isn't a common occurrence.
