Chaos Breaks Out Due to Massive Headshot During Lightning-Panthers Game
Whenever the Tampa Bay Lightning clash with the Florida Panthers, you can almost bet on sparks flying. Their latest encounter was no exception, though it took a bit longer for tensions to flare this time around.
In the second period, just as the Panthers netted a goal to push the score to 3-1, chaos ensued. Before the Panthers could even start their goal celebration, a major scuffle broke out on the ice.
The commotion began moments before the goal when Panthers' defenseman
Dmitry Kulikov delivered a headshot to Lightning's
Conor Sheary.
Immediately after the goal was scored, players paired up and exchanged blows, igniting a full-on brawl.
For his part in the melee, Kulikov received a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct, resulting in the Panthers' goal being disallowed.
Given their sporadic decisions this season, it's uncertain how the Department of Player Safety will respond, but Kulikov's hit is surely on their radar for review.
