In today's match-up between the New York Islanders and the Ottawa Senators, the stage wasn't set for a clash of NHL titans. However, of the two teams, the Islanders hold a stronger position in the race for the postseason. Yet, that goal seemed to slip further away following a costly penalty in overtime.

Bo Horvat's late goal in the third period gave the Islanders hope of securing two crucial points.

However, his fortunes changed when he found himself penalized for holding in overtime, paving the way for the Senators' Brady Tkachuk to seal the victory with a powerplay goal.

Although Horvat and others contested the call, arguing it was a soft penalty, it ultimately decided the outcome of the game. As a result, the Islanders find themselves trailing behind the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning in the hunt for a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference
