Ovechkin Suffers Injury During Training Camp
It was reported just now by the Washington Capitals PR team that Russian superstar and long-time captain of the team, Alex Ovechkin, suffered a lower body injury while participating in training camp today.
Alex Ovechkin left the ice today at training camp to be evaluated for a lower-body injury
The severity of Ovechkin's injury is unknown at this time, but this isn't good news for anybody. Ovechkin, who just turned 40 yesterday, has held up better than most at his age. Severe injuries this late in a player's career can sometimes mark the beginning of the end.
This is potentially heartbreaking news for Capitals fans, who were looking forward to what could be Ovechkin's final season in the NHL. The longtime Capital
has been outspoken about his goals for this season, stating his intention to bring the Stanley Cup back to Washington one more time.
Ovechkin was slated to hit the ice today with Washington's second group and was set to line up alongside
Dylan Strome and
Anthony Beauvillier. Youngster
Terik Parascak skated with Strome and Beauvillier today in Ovechkin's place, and will hope to impress alongside some of Washington's best forwards.
While we're hoping for the best for Ovechkin right now, everything remains uncertain. We hope to have some clarity on the situation in the near future.
