Tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins have lost a big part of their lineup as veteran forward Rickard Rakell has suffered an injury against the Blue Jackets.

Over the last couple of weeks, Rickard Rakell's name has been in the news as a potential trade deadline candidate for the the Penguins.
Unfortunately, tonight Rakell's name is back in the news but this time due to an injury suffered after blocking a shot from the Blue Jackets.
According to multiple reports, Rakell blocked a shot early in the third period of tonight's contest and immediately went to the locker room.
Just minutes after heading to the locker room, Rakell was officially ruled out by the Penguins.

Rickard Rakell Ruled Out With Upper-Body Injury

An official update has been given by the Pittsburgh Penguins confirming that Rakell will be out for the rest of the game due to the injury he suffered.
With Rakell out for the game, the next update on his status going forward will likely come from Head Coach Dan Muse in his post-game press conference.
So far this season, Rakell was on the best point pace of his career at 32 years old and a clear spark plug leading this Penguins to unexpected success early in the season.
Now, the Penguins will likely have to lean even further into their youth movement and rely on reinforcements from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if Rakell misses any time.
With this injury, it becomes more likely that 2025 first-round pick Ben Kindel remains in Pittsburgh beyond his 9-game trial if Rakell's injury is long-term.
As those updates are given on Rakell's status and potential return timeline we will pass along all of the latest details.
