Because of the dominant start of Pittsburgh Penguins prospect goalie Sergei Murashov, GM Kyle Dubas could be forced into making a move to bring him up to the NHL sooner than later.
Right now, the Pittsburgh Penguins are defying expectations for this season in which most fans and analysts picked them to come nowhere close to picking up a playoff spot.
They have won 6 of the opening 8 games of the year and have impressed even their staunchest of doubters, albeit in a small sample size.
One of the key aspects of their hot start is the improved play of goaltender
Tristan Jarry, who was waived last year but has come back with a far better effort this year.
He's 5-0 with the AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with an impressive 1.40 GAA and .949 SV%.
Even though the Penguins are set right now with Jarry and new acquisition
Arturs Silovs in the net, could Penguins GM Kyle Dubas be swayed into giving Murashov a start in Pittsburgh if he can keep up his own hot start in the AHL?
Sergei Murashov could potentially be the Penguins' starter of the future
The Penguins took Murashov with the 118th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft while he was playing in his native Russia.
He continued to play in the KHL with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl before making the jump to North America, playing last year with both the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as well as the ECHL affiliate Wheeling Nailers.
The Penguins are a team likely looking to rebuild this season and if Murashov continues his incredible start to the year Dubas and the Penguins front office could look to trade one of Tristan Jarry or even Arturs Silovs to create room for the electric rookie to get a chance.
