12-year NHL veteran inks a professional tryout contract with a Pacific Division team
As the month of August wraps up and we look ahead to September, we've seen a number of players sign professional tryout agreements over the past few days, including the likes of Brandon Sutter, Joel Kiviranta, Nick Shore and Jordie Benn, among others. Now, we can add another name to the list.
On Thursday, the Anaheim Ducks announced that they had signed long-time NHLer Zack Kassian to a PTO. The situation is a good one for Kassian, as he'll have a legitimate shot at earning a contract with the Ducks, who are still very much a team in transition, even after drafting 2nd overall in this year's draft.
Kassian, as we well know, plays with an edge and isn't afraid of sticking up for his teammates. He has a lot of experience in the league after playing 12 seasons, split between the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Arizona Coyotes.
The Windsor, Ontario native spent the 2022-23 season in Arizona but was bought out this summer. Kassian will earn $1.66M from the Yotes this season and another $766K next season as a result of his buyout.
