7 Players Hit NHL Waivers from Penguins' Division Rivals
A total of 22 players were placed on NHL waivers today, with seven of those coming from the Hurricanes, Rangers, and Flyers, all rivals of the Penguins.
Some teams are evidently biding their time to see if larger targets become available, which is why not many players have been claimed.
The Penguins Have an Option to Claim a Former #10 Overall Draft Pick
The newest significant shakeup is by the Carolina Hurricanes, a rival of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who waived former No. 10 overall draft choice
Tyson Jost.
Carolina signed Jost during the previous season, but his roster position was never secured. During 2023-24, he tallied four goals and nine points in 39 games for the Hurricanes and also appeared in 14 AHL games.
Now 27 years old, and having produced less, he was a candidate to be waived in the summer roster risk all along.
Other rivals of the Penguins who waived players today were the Rangers and Flyers, with New York placing four players on the wire, and Philadelphia putting just one.
The Sharks exposed five players to waivers, and the
Calgary Flames sent four to waivers. With opening night just a week off, the waiver wire might get even more intriguing as teams make up their minds.
The initial rounds of cuts won't have made shock headlines, but things can flip real quickly. With rosters shortly to be determined, Penguins fans would do well to wait and see if Kyle Dubas puts in a claim for any of these players.
