The Calgary Flames are dealing with a nightmare for their PR team. Recently, it became public that a recent draft pick of theirs is facing serious charges against him.

Drafted in the second by the Flames last offseason, Top Ronni has been summoned to appear in court to face charges of an alleged sexual assault.

"Today I have received a summons to appear in court. The last two years or more have been difficult while waiting for the case to proceed. I trust that the course of events will be clarified in the course of the trial. For the time being, I will be away from the team and concentrate on the case".

The team Ronni is referring to in the statement is his current team, Tappara Tampere of SM-Liiga. At the moment, he has left the team and will not participate in any hockey related activity. With these charges now making news in North America, the Calgary Flames issued a statement about their prospect.

"We became aware of a potential legal issue with Topi Ronni following our selection of him in the 2022 NHL draft. We take this matter seriously and will let the legal process follow its due course. We have no further comment at this time."

Ronni is currently 19, and these allegations date back to when he was 17. At this time, no date has been set for his trial.
