The Kalamazoo Wings, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks, announced on Monday that they've signed rookie goaltender Mariah Fujimagari to a PTO contract.

The 29 year old Fujimagari makes history, becoming first woman goaltender to be offered a professional tryout contract from an ECHL team.

«Mariah is an athletic goaltender that battles on every shot and reads the play well,»
said Joel Martin, Kalamazoo's Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach.

In the PHF's 2021-22 season with the Connecticut Whale, Fujimagari posted an amazing 1.40 GAA with a .934 save percentage through 18 games, carrying a 5-0 record. In a professional Swedish women's league last year, Fujimagari had a decline in play, dropping to a brutal 4.52 GAA and .877 save percentage.

«I couldn't be happier to join the K-Wings,» Fujimagari said. «I'm going to make sure to set the tone from the start with a solid performance every day. I'm most excited to be a part of the Kalamazoo community and skate in front of the amazing fans.»

The Kalamazoo Wings start their regular season on October 21st against the Toledo Walleye.
