Fans of a certain vintage will no doubt remember the Dominator, Dominik Hasek. In the prime of his career in the 90s and early 2000s, Hasek was thought of as one of the best goalies of all time. In a stretch of eight seasons, Hasek won 6 Vezina trophies and two straight Hart Memorial trophies for league MVP. In his career he garnered an impressive 81 shutouts with a .922 save average. To this day, he is still in conversation for the best goaltender of all time.
Although remembered by most for his outstanding career and wild technique at the goalie position, Hasek mostly appears in the news nowadays for his strong opinions on the country of Russia, and how the NHL should deal with their Russian counterparts. As per new reports from PuckEmpire, Hasek believes the NHL should be paying the Ukrainian government $2B-$4B every year for allowing Russian players to play.
Last year in 2022 when conflict between Ukraine and Russia escalated greatly, Hasek was heavily scrutinized for his opinion suggesting that all Russian NHL players should donate their entire salaries to the Ukrainian people, or banning Russian players entirely from the NHL.
Regardless of political stances, Hasek will always be remembered as one of the greatest goalies in hockey history. In truth, it's inspiring to see the Dominator passionate about his beliefs and how they relate to his life in hockey.
