Golden Knights pluck former 1st round pick off of the waiver wire
The Vegas Golden Knights have made a splash on the waiver wire on Saturday, claiming former 1st round pick, Grigori Denisenko off of waivers from the Florida Panthers, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The 23-year-old winger played 18 games for the Panthers, only producing 3 assists last season. The Panthers did select him with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, but Denisenko has struggled to establish himself as an NHL level player. The Golden Knights are hoping they can turn Denisenko into a bit of a reclamation project to see if they can help him get the most out of his young pro career.
After being grabbed off waivers, Denisenko will probably start the campaign serving as a bottom-six forward with Vegas until they can get a better read on what he can be. If he struggles, back on waivers he'll go, but if he can rise to the occasion, this could be a steal for Vegas.
