NHL Veteran Comes Out Of Retirement To Return To Professional Hockey
In another familiar tale of veteran players coming out of retirement for another shot at professional hockey, former CoyoteZach Kassian has embraced this opportunity by signing with a new team.
Today, the Windsor, Ontario native inked a deal with HC Sparta in the Czech Pro League. Kassian, at 33, last graced the NHL ice last season with the Arizona Coyotes, tallying 2 goals in 51 games.
The announcement came during a league game for HC Sparta against Třinec, with the team introducing their new acquisition. However, Kassian wasn't dressed for the game.
As a seasoned NHL veteran with over 600 games of experience, Kassian, drafted 13th overall in 2009, boasts 661 NHL games, accumulating 92 goals and 203 points, with the majority of his time spent with the Edmonton Oilers, accounting for 412 games.
Under the new contract, Kassian won't be eligible to return to the NHL this season. However, with the deal being a one-year commitment, speculation arises about the possibility of a return attempt to the league in the following season.
