Brett Pesce signs 35 million dollar contract
Brett Pesce was considered to be one of the best available defenceman in the 2024 free agent class, but now he's officially off the market as he's agreed to terms to join a new team.
In a post on X on Monday, TSN'S Chris Johnston of announced that Brett Pesce has signed a six year contract in the range of $5.5 million per season with the New Jersey Devils.
"When Brett Pesce's free-agent deal is finalized with #NJDevils, it's expected to come in at six years with an AAV in the $5.5M range." Johnston said.
Pesce, 29, was is a former 3rd round pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2013 and has spent his entire NHL career with the twam until this point, but now he's wanting a new challenge.
The New York native played in 70 games for Carolina in the 2023�24 regular season, recording 13 points (three goals, ten assists), 20 penalty minutes, and a plus�ten rating. In the next two Stanley Cup Playoff games, he added one assist.
The New Jersey Devils, who needed a top-four defenseman going into Monday's start of the free agency season, have added a huge piece with this. How Brett Pesce fits into Sheldon Keefe's scheme for the upcoming season is a matter of time.
