Capitals Head Coach Spencer Carbery Defends Tom Wilson After His Polarizing Hit on Filip Chytil
Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been known for crossing the line throughout his career and today his head coach addressed his latest incident with Filip Chytil.
Tom Wilson throughout his 10 plus year NHL career has been known for playing incredibly physical and at times to a dangerous or illegal level.
Recently, Wilson has been under fire for a questionable blindside hit to the head of Filip Chytil.
Wilson's reputation along with Chytil's history of concussion issues has led fans to be outraged that no penalty or suspension were given to Wilson on this play.
In response to the backlash from fans about Wilson's hit and reputation in general, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery came to his player's defense.
Spencer Carbery Defends Tom Wilson After Vicious Hit on Filip Chytil
During a recent interview with NHL analyst Jeff Marek, Carbery was asked about the hit from Wilson and whether the play was over the line.
Carbury reveals that in recent years Wilson has often times given players a warning before delivering a big hit so they can brace themselves.
These guys are competitive and out there in a physical sport. But no one want to see someone get hurt.
The hit to me is clean. I remember talking to Wilson and he said a lot of times in games believe it or not will tell guys when he's coming to hit them. Because of what he's gone through in his past.
With the Chytil play in particular it is unclear whether or not Wilson gave him any notice or just went in for the hit.
Regardless, Chytil is now out likely long-term with another concussion and Wilson's reputation continues to get worse even if he did not have the intent to hurt Chytil.
