Connor Clifton reacts to Trevor Zegras' head fakes in hilarious fashion
When the Penguins met the Flyers, the rivalry was at an all-time high, and tensions spilled over with Trevor Zegras and Connor Clifton, but in hilarious fashion.
As long as the Penguins have been playing hockey, there have been physical games involving them and the Philadelphia Flyers. On Monday, it didn't look like the Flyers wanted to play physically. Boko Imama had much to do with that.
Imama, one of the toughest enforcers in the NHL, played his first game of the season in Philadelphia and will accompany the Penguins on their travels to Tampa Bay and Dallas.
Last month, the Penguins vs. Flyers game was marked by numerous major incidents, especially in overtime. This recent one was clearly a different story.
What Trevor Zegras did that made him look ridiculous on the ice
Trevor Zegras, maybe the loudest of the Flyers, wasn't going to challenge Imama. He didn't try to fight Connor Clifton, either. He gave him some staged head butts to try to make Clifton react.
Clifton just stood there and stared. He said later that Zegras had talked to him before attempting the challenge.
"It's happened to me before, people doing the fake things like that," Clifton said. "But it never happened before with Zegras. I said, 'As if I'm scared of you.' Maybe someone else could have gotten me. But he wasn't getting me."
Why the Flyers were afraid to engage the Penguins
No Flyers wanted to tangle with the Penguins on Monday, not with Imama on the ice. Imama chuckled after hearing rumors of Clifton's comments about the fake head butt. Imama, 6-foot-1 and 223 pounds, stands as big as his personality off the ice.
At 29, Imama understands his position as the protector of Sidney Crosby and the others on the Penguins roster.
Although there was some involvement from Zegras, the majority of the Flyers stayed away during the Penguins' 5-1 win. Imama's presence had definitely created the tone, and the Penguins were easily able to win without the threat of repercussions.
