Connor McDavid broke an NHL record with four points in Saturday's victory, proving that the Edmonton Oilers had their best player stand up.

With the Florida Panthers leading 3-0 in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers faced a game that might either be won or lost on Saturday night. Edmonton came out swinging with their backs against the wall and accomplished an unexpected feat: they drove Sergei Bobrovsky out of the crease.

Edmonton surpassed their previous best of seven goals against the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, scoring eight goals, the most by any club in a game this year during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. While the Oilers' depth increased tonight, Connor McDavid was the standout player and a major contributor to the win.

Connor McDavid recorded four points (one goal, three assists) in the victory, bringing his total for the Stanley Cup Playoffs to 38 points through 22 games. McDavid passed hockey great Wayne Gretzky with his third assist of the game to tie the record for most assists in a single post-season (32).

"The new record holder for most assists in a single #StanleyCup Playoffs in NHL history.

Connor McDavid."

"CONNOR MCDAVID HAS BROKEN THE RECORD FOR MOST ASSISTS IN A SINGLE POSTSEASON 🍎🚨"

Year after year, Connor McDavid continues to do things that make hockey fans stunned and Saturday night's performance was no exception. When all is said and done and McDavid hangs up his skates, there's no question he'll be a top-five player in the history of the National Hockey League.

McDavid will need another big game on Tuesday night as the Florida Panthers have a second chance this series at winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, this time in front of their home fans. There's no doubt that Paul Maurice's group has already brushed this game off and are ready for Game 5 in a couple of days and for the opportunity in front of them. Puck drop for Game 5 on Tuesday is set for 8 pm ET on CBC and Sportsnet.
