Brad Marchand is set to get paid in free agency this year, and according to Don Cherry, that could mean a shocking return to the Boston Bruins.
After being traded by the Boston Bruins at the deadline, Brad Marchand saw his iconic run of over 15 years with the franchise come to an end, the franchise he won the 2011 Stanley Cup with.
Now, he's just one victory away from his second Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, and with 10 goals in this post-season and five in the Finals thus far, he's potentially the front runner for the Conn Smythe at this point in time.
This all bodes well for free agency this summer, as many have stated that he's likely to go to the highest bidder that offers him a 3-4 year deal, and with his play in the post-season, his overall number is going up, even at 37-years of age.
Now, iconic hockey personality Don Cherry has linked him to a return to the Boston Bruins on the latest episode of his podcast, stating that there may have been a quiet deal happening between the two when he was traded to the Panthers at the 2025 trade deadline.
"Maybe they said, 'Listen, you sign them for this year. We'll sign them. We'll sign them next'"
While that's purely speculation, Cherry hasn't always been one to throw out wild theories with no proof behind them, and if he's saying it, there's definitely a chance that it could happen.
Ultimately though, there's going to be many teams after Marchand in free agency this season, and while we can't discount the Boston Bruins given the veteran's connection to the team over so many years, there's a good chance that he ends up on a completely different team in 2025/26 and beyond.
