Former Penguins defenseman Hal Gill was recently speaking on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast and revealed that his ex-teammate Sergei Kostitsyn was a horrible person.

The Montreal Canadiens have a record of drafting or obtaining young, skilled players who never quite lived up to their potential.
It's been better lately, as we've seen players like Lane Hutson, Nick Suzuki, and Cole Caufield blossom into unbelievable players, but the past was pretty rough at times.
Going back a decade and even more back in time, the Kostitsyn brothers, Sergei and Andrei, had difficult times in Montreal.

Hal Gill Won a Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh and Knows What it Takes to Win

One of Sergei Kostitsyn's former teammates, ex-NHL defenseman Hal Gill, a Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, provided some insight into Kostitsyn when he appeared as a guest on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast.
Hal Gill, who also played for the Canadiens, broke some behind-the-scenes stories that appeared to mirror Kostitsyn's poor focus and dedication.
"He was a horrible person in Montreal.

He was a bad teammate, a bad person.

When I met him again in Nashville, I didn't want to be around that guy."

To add to that, NHL analyst Marc-Antoine Godin had more information regarding Kostitsyn on the 'Basu & Godin Notebook' podcast, further solidifying the reasons why the winger's career in Montreal never got off the ground.
In the latest episode of the Basu & Godin Notebook, they share stories about the Habs from the late 2000s-early 2010s. Godin talks about the time the Kostitsyn brothers were linked to a shady drug dealer who had been arrested at the time.

So Godin asked Andrei Kostitsyn after a game if he personally knew this guy known for hanging out with Habs players & "facilitating them with alcohol & women."

Andrei Kostitsyn just told him: "I can do that myself."
Both brothers flashed offensive talent, yet consistency and attitude problems usually got in the way. Seeing how their careers went, it's no surprise that none of the Kostitsyn brothers had a long league career.
For a team just coming out of a rebuild and looking to grow its next batch of stars, the Canadiens are certainly hoping their current batch of youngsters doesn't go down the same route, and if last season is any indication, it seems like the coast is clear.
