Rick Tocchet has been courted by many teams early in the off-season, but now, it appears a young Metro Division team has won the race to land his signature, beating out two very competitive offers for Tocchet.
The Philadelphia Flyers fired John Tortorella late in the 2024/25 season, and with the team believing they have a shot to take a step forward next year, many expected them to go big game hunting for a new Head Coach in the summer.
Now, it appears as though they have fulfilled those expectations, as Frank Seravalli has confirmed that while it's not yet official, it will be the Flyers to hire in demand Head Coach Rick Tocchet this off-season.
This comes just a day after Darren Dreger confirmed the Flyers, along with the Kraken and Bruins were the finalists to land the star Head Coach, and with a positive future led by
Matvei Michkov and a connection to Tocchet, it appears they've won the race to land his signature.
More details will come out in the near future about the negotiation and his contract, but after Tocchet reportedly turned down a five-year, $25 million deal with the Canucks this off-season, it's highly likely that he will again be one of the highest paid coaches in the league after this move.
With a big off-season ahead including the No. 6 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, the Flyers have started with a bang, and if they can land a star there and use their money in free agency wisely, there's absolutely no reason that this team can't compete for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs under new Head Coach Rick Tocchet.
