The hockey world has lost another member of its fraternity, as Cam Brown has sadly passed away at the young age of 56, reported by the NHL Alumni.
A Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native, Brown started his career in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings, netting 34 goals as a junior in his last year, 1989-90.
Cam Brown made his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks in 1991
He started his professional career in the IHL with the Milwaukee Admirals before making his NHL dream come true on March 3, 1991, playing for the Vancouver Canucks against the Chicago Blackhawks in the historic Chicago Stadium.
Brown eventually became a staple in the ECHL, where he spent the majority of the following decade. He spent part of three years in Northwest Pennsylvania with the old Erie Panthers, charming area fans with his toughness and tenacity.
In the 1994-95 campaign, he compiled a staggering 341 penalty minutes in 60 games, a tribute to his aggressive style and willingness to fight for his teammates.
Following a brief retirement, Brown came back to play for one season with the Gwinnett Gladiators, where he was a popular favorite among fans. The team later retired his number 44 jersey in his honor.
He is fourth on the all-time ECHL list of most games played in his professional career at 789.
We know how difficult times like these can be, so we would like to take this moment to extend our deepest condolences to all of Cam's family, friends, and former teammates. May he rest in peace for eternity.
