Ever since the passing of Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau, fans have been trying to figure out the best ways to honor the two brothers.
One method that has been brought up is a temporary jersey retirement. Essentially, some fans believe that the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets should simply retire Johnny's jersey for a few years. However, some fans believe it would actually be smarter to have the league rename the Lady Byng trophy.
This is the 100th anniversary of the trophy, and considering it is given to players for their sportsmanship, fans thing Johnny Gaudreau would be the perfect fit for a rebrand. So much so that multiple petitions have popped up as of late in which fans are asking for the change.
The petitions admittedly do not have a lot of signatures right now. However, some might not even know that the petitions exist. Instead, fans will simply have to lean on public pressure or social media trends to get the word out. Not to mention, the league is well aware of the situation and is likely figuring out a way to honor Gaudreau to the best of their ability.
