Penguins Legend Jaromir Jagr's Latest Post All-But Confirms His Retirement Fate
One of the NHL's all-time greats, Jaromir Jagr, posted recently on social media, where it appeared to state that he was not going to be retiring after all.
Jaromir Jagr hasn't laced up for the NHL since 2017-18,
but his legacy continues in an amazing way: for the 45th straight year, a former Jagr teammate will appear in the Stanley Cup Final.
The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers advancing maintains the streak. Jagr began his NHL career in 1990 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the streak starts even earlier than that.
Jagr's teammate streak began way back in 1980
It started in 1980 with Bryan Trottier, who later also became Jagr's teammate in Pittsburgh. The two took back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992, Jagr's sole NHL championships.
Over the course of a 24-year career in nine different teams,
Jagr shared ice time with a genuinely eclectic group of talent, many of whom went on to create their own post-season streaks.
Panthers captain
Aleksander Barkov, Jagr's old Florida linemate, has continued the tradition this season.
Brad Marchand, who played alongside Jagr during his stint in Boston, is also on the Florida roster.
In the Oilers' camp, defenseman
Brett Kulak was one of Jagr's brief teammates with the Calgary Flames during Jagr's final season in the NHL in 2017-18.
And just when it seemed Jagr's on-ice story was over, he made headlines again. In a recent social media post, the 52-year-old hinted at his everlasting love for the game and cryptically announced he is not ready to hang up his skates yet.
In classic Jagr fashion, he is just as connected and committed to hockey as always, gobsmacking fans again with his refusal to retire.
