The Pittsburgh Penguins have snatched up a former young, skilled forward of the Montreal Canadiens on Day 2 of the NHL's free agency period.
The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Rafael Harvey-Pinard to a one-year contract, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced today.
"Harvey-Pinard's contract runs through the 2025-26 season and carries an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level."
Harvey-Pinard, 26, spent the 2024-25 season with the Montreal Canadiens organization.
Harvey-Pinard only played in one NHL game last season
He played in one game with the Canadiens and 40 games with their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, with 19 points (5 goals, 14 assists) and a plus-2 rating.
Saguenay, Quebec, born Harvey-Pinard has spent the past five years (2020-2025) with the Canadiens organization. He has played 84 games during his NHL career and has a total of 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points.
His most successful season as an NHL player was in 2022-23 when he tallied 14 goals and six assists for 20 points in only 34 games.
In the AHL,
Harvey-Pinard has been a consistent contributor with the Laval Rocket, appearing in 185 regular-season games and accumulating 126 points (51 goals, 75 assists).
Originally drafted in the seventh round (201st overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft by Montreal, Harvey-Pinard has played five years of junior hockey in the QMJHL with Rouyn-Noranda and Chicoutimi.
He capped off his junior career in 2019 with Rouyn-Noranda winning a Memorial Cup title and a QMJHL championship. It appears the Penguins are getting a player who knows what it feels like to win it all.
