After spending last season in Europe, an NHL veteran is attempting to return to the league in an effort to restart his career after neurological problems forced him out of the NHL just a couple years ago.
The 28-year-old Kase has suffered from head injuries over his last two NHL seasons. He played in 50 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2021–2022 and just one game for the Hurricanes in 2022–2023. The attacker played in 48 games for HC Litvínov in Czechia the previous year, totaling 54 points (23 goals, 31 assists).
At the World Championships, Kase is presently competing for Czechia, having played the entire season in perfect health.
It's been wonderful to see Kase have a season devoid of health problems, and given his desire to play in the NHL again, I'm sure teams would consider offering him a depth contract if the situation makes sense.
