Shocking Polls Reveal Which Canadian Teams Fans Are Backing in the Playoffs

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are well under way, and with all eight series thus far being highly competitive and entertaining, fans are getting exactly what they expect and want at this time of year.

After 31 years without the Stanley Cup, Canada this season has five teams competing for Lord Stanley, and while two of those teams are doing battle in round one, all five seemingly have a shot.

Interestingly, the question has now been posed to Canadians: which team are you rooting for to win the Stanley Cup? While the poll reveals that 71% of people from Canada will actively root for a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup, the Angus Reid Institute has revealed some more intriguing answers about the question.

Firstly, it's no surprise that the most populated city and province in Canada is in the lead, with 31% of people revealing that it's the Toronto Maple Leafs they are cheering for, and with a 3-0 lead in the first round over the last place (11%) Ottawa Senators, their chances are looking good.

Following that is the hockey mad province of Quebec and their Montreal Canadiens, who come in just behind the Maple Leafs with 30% of fans cheering for them to go all the way as the No. 8 seed.

Beyond that, both Edmonton and Winnipeg have some support, but given that they come from more Western provinces, it's easy to see why they're lower given the population disparity between those places and Quebec/Ontario.

Ultimately, only four teams of these could potentially win the Cup, with either Ottawa/Toronto being eliminated after round one given their series against each other, and while the odds are against them doing it, the support is definitely there for the Stanley Cup to come back to Canada in 2025.
