Kyle Dubas Pulls Off a Trade With His Former Team, the Leafs

Kyle Dubas has struck a deal with his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, that will see Conor Timmins and Connor Dewar head to the state of Pennsylvania and into the Penguins locker room.

Dewar has played in 31 games for the Leafs this season, without scoring a goal but adding three assists. In 221 games played, Dewar has scored a total of 19 goals while adding 27 assists.

This trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins may provide Dewar with some new opportunities to contribute. His recent performance shows he plays more of a defensive game, hence having only three assists on the season.

Timmins has played in 51 games with Toronto this season, scoring two goals and adding six assists. In his NHL career, he has scored five goals and added 34 assists in 142 games.

This trade may provide Timmins with new ways to contribute to the Penguins.

He recently scored a goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Mar 2, 2025, and he has logged significant ice time in recent games, with 18 minutes played against the Vegas Golden Knights. He is definitely a good depth addition

The Penguins gave up a late-round draft pick for these two players as the Leafs had to clear salary.

The Leafs were very busy making several moves of their own such as acquiring Scott Laughton and Brandon Carlo, so it was very important for the team to offload some salary, which led to this trade with the Penguins.
