Pittsburgh Penguins trade newly-acquired defenseman to Winnipeg Jets
Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas just made another trade, sending Luke Schenn to the Winnipeg Jets for draft picks.
The Pittsburgh Penguins appear to be in fire sale mode today as Kyle Dubas hinted at earlier this season.
The team has already made three moves in the last 24 hours, with the latest coming as a surprise to many.
That's right, he will be joining the Winnipeg Jets as the team just acquired him in their first big move of the day.
Heading to Pittsburgh in return is a 2nd and 4th round draft pick.
Schenn has a goal and five points in 61 games with the Predators this season. He did not appear in a single game with the Penguins.
Apparently, Dubas and the Penguins originally did not intend to flip Schenn after acquiring him from Nashville, but after he told the team he wanted to play for a contender, the gm obliged.
The veteran blueliner has appeared in over 1000 regular season NHL games and is one of the more trusted defenders in the league.
He has 44 goals and 203 career points, but the Jets are not going to be worried about his offensive production.
Rather, the club will focus on the defensive side of things with Schenn, as they look to shore up their bottom pair going into the playoffs.
