The Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues have engaged in a trade earlier today, swapping defensemen Corey Schueneman and Calle Rosen.
Both these players have spent this season in the AHL, and the Capitals said that Schueneman will report to the Hershey Bears upon his arrival.
Calle Rosen did not play at all in the NHL last season
Rosen last played in the NHL with the Blues during the 2023-24 season, posting just one assist in six games.
He appeared in 49 games with the Blues the previous season, scoring eight goals and 18 points total. In 93 career NHL games, the 31-year-old defenseman has 11 goals and 31 points.
Schueneman, age 30, dressed in just four games with the Blues last season, failing to record a single point. He has two goals and seven points in his 35 career NHL games.
Despite a seven-game stint with the Blues last year, Schueneman's NHL career has been limited to only two goals and seven points in 35 games for the Canadiens, averaging 16:10 of ice time per game.
He's had a far better track record in the AHL, where he scored 26 goals and has a total of 116 points in 316 games with a very solid +28 rating.
Schueneman signed with the AHL's Stockton Heat on March 23, 2019, after completing his collegiate career at Western Michigan University, where he was teammates with Washington's forward
Ethen Frank.
In four seasons with the Broncos, Schueneman recorded a solid 82 points (14g, 68a) in 144 career games and served as the team's captain during his senior season in 2018-19.
We wish both players the very best as they begin this new chapter in their respective careers.
