Philadelphia Flyers Trade Away 15 Year NHL Veteran Just Days Before the Season Begins
This afternoon, the Philadelphia Flyers have made a big trade involving 15 year NHL veteran Ryan Ellis.
Heading into this upcoming season the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers are expected to be two of the teams fighting for a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
Today, the Flyers have made a bold and surprising move that will likely set them up well to add talent at the trade deadline to push them over the edge.
According to multiple reports, the Flyers have parted ways with Ryan Ellis sending his $6.25 million cap hit to the San Jose Sharks.
Philadelphia Flyers Make a Big Trade With the San Jose Sharks
This is purely a salary cap clearing move on the Flyers part as Ellis has been out of action due to injuries for several seasons now.
As for what they are getting back, Grundstrom and Guryev are both at best depth pieces.
Grundstrom played for the Sharks last season but had poor results while playing bottom line minutes.
Guryev played in the ECHL and has a long road ahead of him to be considered an NHL talent.
However, it will now be interesting to see what the Flyers will do with the salary cap space they have created.
As the season goes on, we will now have to wait and see how long the Flyers wait to cash in their created salary cap space by this trade.
