The Colorado Avalanche secured additional valuable depth by signing former Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Barré-Boulet to a new contract.
The Colorado Avalanche have secured additional valuable depth on their roster, signing former Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Barré-Boulet to a 1-year, 2-way deal.
He only appeared in a pair of games with the Canadiens this year while mostly playing with the AHL affiliate Laval Rocket. In 64 games, he had 63 points (22G, 41A).
The former 2018 Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year while suiting up with the QMJHL's Blainville-Broisbriand Armada, Barré-Boulet was never drafted and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018.
He would play in his 1st career NHL game in April 2021 against the Carolina Hurricanes, and later scored his 1st career NHL goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets; he later signed a 3-year contract extension that he was awarded by management.
But in October 2021, his time with the Lightning ended when he was placed on waivers and subsequently claimed by the Seattle Kraken.

Undrafted, his determination and work ethic got him to the NHL. Could stand to improve his skating a little more, but there is no questioning his drive. Also, his overall skills are underrated. Can play both wing and center, which adds to his value to National Hockey League teams. Is an excellent forechecker but needs to get stronger for the long run.
He has 18 points (12G, 6A) in 70 career NHL games with the Lightning and Canadiens.
