Matthew Tkachuk won his second straight Stanley Cup on Tuesday night, but after the game, he complimented Connor McDavid while sending him a clear message.
Tuesday night saw the crowning of the Florida Panthers as the Stanley Cup Champions for the second straight season, and after another win over the Edmonton Oilers, there was plenty of trash talk and big statements made from Panthers players.
However, it wasn't all in that vein, as Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk has offered a major compliment to Oilers captain Connor McDavid, stating that some time in the future, he's going to win himself a Stanley Cup.
"When you have a player that good and that talented, he's going to win (the Stanley Cup) one day. Wherever it is."
However, the former Calgary Flame and longtime rival of the Oilers did slide a short jab in at McDavid and the team at the end of his statement, noting that he could win one 'wherever it is', suggesting that one day, he may have to leave Edmonton to reach the mountain top.
That's exactly what Tkachuk did when he was traded from Calgary to Florida, and in three seasons, his team has now made the Finals in all three, capturing the Stanley Cup in both 2024 and 2025.
With the setup of the Oilers team, they simply aren't built to beat a deep team like Florida, and with McDavid's free agency approaching, there's always a chance that he seeks Stanley Cup glory on another team.
There's still a year to go until that happens, and for now, No. 97 remains the best individual player in the game, and after two failed shots at the Cup already, don't be surprised to see him drag his team all the way back once again in the coming years.
