Brad Marchand and the Panthers Throw Bruins Under the Bus After Championship Win
Celebrating with his Panthers teammates, Brad Marchand joined the chorus of a group of fans outside mocking the Boston Bruins for trading him.
The Florida Panthers have now won back to back Stanley Cups, and they did so by once again taking down the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final.
One of the main components of their latest championship run was the addition of Brad Marchand, acquired at the last minute at the Trade Deadline in a surprising deal with the divisional foe Boston Bruins.
Marchand not only scored the OT GWG in Game 3 of the ECSF against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he also scored a whopping 6 goals in the Cup Final series itself.
While Marchand was in consideration for the Conn Smythe Trophy, that honor went to teammate
Sam Bennett, who scored 15 postseason goals.
Celebrating hours later at the popular Elbo Room beach bar in Ford Lauderdale, Marchand joined the chorus of a large group of Panthers fans who were gathered outside in thanking the Bruins for trading him to Florida.
Marchand is likely thanking the Bruins for the trade that's officially made him a Stanley Cup champion for the 2nd time in his NHL career.
It was a stunning trade at the time by Bruins GM Don Sweeney, who had been unable to come to an agreement with Marchand on a new contract extension. The Bruins missed the playoffs and fired coach Jim Montgomery, who had just led them to a 65-win year in 2022-23, replacing him with interim coach Joe Sacco for the rest of the season.
While Bruins fans are likely in a rotten mood today, the celebration is just beginning for Marchand and Panthers fans everywhere.
