NHL Slammed For Double Standard After Sam Bennett Avoids Punishment For Hit On Stolarz

There has been just one game in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but it was an intense one full of action, with the NHL world in an uproar after Sam Bennett avoided any punishment for a hit on Anthony Stolarz in Game One against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Among other things, this has exposed a major double standard from the NHL, with people on social media pointing out the fine that was given to Nick Cousins in round one for... flipping a puck in the direction of his former teammate in warmups that resulted in no action at all.

Somehow, that not only resulted in a fine for Cousins, but also for the Ottawa Senators organization, but for hitting a goaltender directly in the head while he's in the blue paint and resulting in concussion like symptoms and vomiting on the bench, you get... nothing.

Now, there's only one way that punishment will be delivered for Bennett, and it's likely to come from the Maple Leafs themselves, because if the league can't be relied upon to deliver any type of protection and punishment, it will have to happen from the opposing team.

Ultimately, this series is only about to get worse, as the Maple Leafs will need revenge without their starting goaltender, and if the league won't do anything about it, don't be shocked to see either Sergei Bobrovsky or Sam Bennett in the firing line ahead of what will be a fiery Game Two.
