Devastating News for Marc-Andre Fleury Ahead of Final Season Stretch
Marc-Andre Fleury was expected to start in Vancouver on Saturday, but now it appears he may have played in his final regular season game already.
After a long, illustrious career, Marc-Andre Fleury's time in the NHL is quickly coming to an end, with many expecting him to make his latest start against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
However, the 40-year old veteran came into their latest loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday night, and now, he's received devastating news ahead of Saturday nights game.
According to reports, it will be
Filip Gustavsson again that goes for Minnesota against the Canucks, and with the team needing to win both of their final games to secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it may be the last we see of Fleury in regular season action.
If the Wild come up short in their game against Vancouver, they'll need Calgary to drop one of their final three games to make the post-season this year, and while it would have been great to see Fleury in net for one of them, Gustavsson is clearly their best option at this point in time.
In 2024/25, Fleury has still been a fantastic net minder, posting a 2.94 GAA alongside and .898 save percentage, so while he's not the star he once was, he still brings so much to a team, with many believing he could play on beyond this season.
Ultimately though, he's made the decision to walk away, and while he'd likely love to have one of these final starts against Vancouver or Anaheim, he understands what's best for the team, and if they can win both of these games, there's still a chance that we see him in action in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
