Sportsnet Insider Hints Predators Could Flip Jonathan Marchessault in Bold Move

The Nashville Predators were arguably the NHL's most disappointing team a season ago, and that all comes despite adding the veteran trio of Steven Stamkos, Brady Skjei and Jonathan Marchessault in free agency.

Now, a team with a major lack of young talent is locked into these veterans for the foreseeable future, and with Barry Trotz at the helm, there's not much optimism for many Predators fans.

Ahead of an intriguing 2025/26 campaign, rumours have been circulating over the future of this experienced core, and according to Nick Kypreos, if they're looking to shake things up, the most likely outcome would be the team trading winger Jonathan Marchessault.

While it was a down year for the former Conn Smythe winner, Marchessault was still solid, tallying 21 goals and 56 points in 78 games played, and right now, his value is as high as it may ever be if the team want to recoup some young assets for the 34-year old.

Compared to Skjei and Stamkos, Marchessault's deal will be much easier to move, carrying a salary cap hit of $5.5 million between now and the end of the 2028/29 campaign, so if he's open to a move, it could certainly happen.

Ultimately though, the team did give him a no-trade clause in free agency, meaning that he would pick the destination he ends up going if he does depart the team as a top trade piece, but with the team looking like they're set to struggle for a few years, don't be shocked to see a deal happen sometime before the 2025/26 season.
