NHL Reverses Suspension and Fine for Senators Captain

In a recent game, Ottawa Senators' captain Brady Tkachuk was facing a one-game suspension and coach D.J. Smith a $10,000 fine for an altercation with Buffalo Sabres' Alex Tuch due to a broken instigator rule within the last few minutes of the game.

"Per NHL rule 46.21, Brady Tkachuk is set to be suspended for 1 game for receiving an instigator penalty in the last 5 minutes of regulation, while Head Coach DJ Smith would receive a $10,000 fine."

However, recent inside sources suggest that the NHL's Department of Player Safety has chosen not to suspend Tkachuk, and coach D.J. Smith will not face any fines. Tkachuk received a two-minute instigator penalty, a 10-minute misconduct, and a fighting major.

Sources say the NHL's department of player safety has informed the #Sens there won't be a one game suspension for Brady Tkachuk and coach D.J. Smith won't be fined for the incident late in against Buffalo. It will be up to the officials to decide if the instigator is erased.

The cloud of suspension has lifted, allowing Tkachuk to lead his team without interruption, but was it the right ruling?
