Ottawa Senators Officially Fire Their Head Coach
Despite widespread surprise at the retention of Ottawa Senators head coach DJ Smith, the team displayed resilience in standing by their coach-until now.
In an official announcement issued on Monday, the Senators officially declared the immediate termination of head coach DJ Smith's responsibilities.
As per the same statement, the Senators have appointed seasoned NHL head coach Jacques Martin as the interim replacement, and additionally, he will be joined by the iconic former Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson on the coaching staff.
This marks a pivotal moment for new owner Michael Andlauer, providing him with the opportunity to restructure his coaching team, and it's evident that considerable thought has already gone into this decision.
While Smith attempted to infuse a sense of levity and enjoyment during the team's morning practice, it appears that the Senators' management had reached a tipping point.
