The top divisional foe of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Philadelphia Flyers, are under fire for their risky five year contract extension given to Christian Dvorak.

There was an NHL contract extension today that's already drawing some suspect criticism from fans and analysts.
The Philadelphia Flyers, the top divisional foe of the Pittsburgh Penguins, re-signed forward Christian Dvorak, who is in his first year in a Flyers sweater, to a five year extension with an AAV (average annual value) of $5.15 million.
Fans have taken to social media to share their frustration with GM Danny Briere for making this deal and keeping Dvorak around.
Flyers general manager Daniel Briere, who was always a thorn in the side the Penguins in the playoffs, said that he's glad Dvorak wanted to be with the Flyers on a long term basis.
We're very happy to have Christian be a part of the Philadelphia Flyers for the foreseeable future. He has played a pivotal role in our team's success this season and proven to be a reliable, two-way center that can be trusted in all situations. More importantly, he plays a big role in our locker room and has fit in seamlessly to our group and what we are building.

So far this year, Dvorak has 25 points (9G, 16A) in 39 games played.

Christian Dvorak Was Signed By The Flyers To A One Year Deal During The Summer

Dvorak was taken with the 58th overall pick by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, and he would play the first several years of his NHL career in a Coyotes sweater before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens in 2021.
After playing four years in a Habs sweater, he signed a one year contract with the Flyers over the summer.
In 573 career NHL games with the Coyotes, Canadiens and Flyers, Dvorak has 274 points (114G, 160A).
