Alex Ovechkin Addresses Possibility of the Capitals Trading for Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin
Can you imagine a super NHL team that featured Alex Ovechkin and one of Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin on the Capitals? Ovechkin sure can and he's addressing the possibility ahead of what could be his last NHL year.
The future of Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who is now the leading goal scorer in the history of the NHL after he overtook Wayne Gretzky's previous mark of 894 this year, remains the subject of debate.
Ovechkin is only signed for another year, and many believe that it could possibly be his swan song in the NHL.
Another Russian born icon who is only signed for another year is Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who is believed to also be preparing for potentially his final year of NHL hockey.
Ovechkin was recently asked about how he would feel if the Capitals were to trade for Malkin, or even Malkin's teammate and longtime on-ice foe of Ovechkin's, Sidney Crosby.
Needless to say, he loved the idea.
If this happens, it would be wonderful. If not, we will fight on our own.
Crosby's future is also the subject of debate. While he's signed for another 2 years in Pittsburgh with his customary AAV (average annual value) of $8.7 million, many fans and analysts believe that he could potentially be looking to jump ship so that he cold have one final shot at winning a Stanley Cup before he retires.
The Penguins are in no way going to contend for a championship any time soon, and it would be a surprise to just about everyone if they managed to compete for a Wild Card postseason spot this year.
