The Penguins are ready to push into a rebuild, and now The Hockey Writers have revealed their biggest strength heading into the future.

Over the past few years, the Pittsburgh Penguins have struggled to push their way into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and even with Sidney Crosby still rolling, many believe now is the time for Pittsburgh to push into a rebuild.
In the past 12 months, Kyle Dubas has been smart with his assets, acquiring draft picks and future assets, and according to The Hockey Writers, now is the time for them to push into a genuine rebuild.

Should the Penguins go into full rebuild mode?

In their latest piece, THW have noted the two biggest reasons why the Penguins need to push into a rebuild, with those two reasons being the veteran assets they've got in Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell and Erik Karlsson.
The second is perhaps the most important reason, with the Penguins being the only team in the NHL are that are truly going all-in for a rebuild, as teams like San Jose and Anaheim are now out of their rebuild, looking to push back towards contention.
As a result, the Penguins find themselves in a very positive position where other teams around are pushing to be buyers, and with the assets to sell and the patience to lead themselves into the future with more assets than other teams, the future is looking bright in Pittsburgh if things are done right.
Now, the team need to believe in GM Kyle Dubas as he looks to execute his plan, and after adding some very talented young pieces in the 2025 NHL Draft, and with teams hungry to buy and the Penguins ready to sell, this is the perfect opportunity to cash in ahead of a loaded 2026 NHL Draft.
