Anthony Mantha's Fate for Next Season After ACL Surgery Confirmed

Former Calgary Flames forward Anthony Mantha, who missed most of last year with a torn ACL, signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins and is expected to be healthy for the start of training camp this month.
Last year, the Calgary Flames signed Anthony Mantha to a 1 year contract, and things appeared to be working out well for him in the early goings as he had 7 points (4G, 3A) in 13 games.
But he suffered a torn ACL that ended his season, and he was not re-signed. The Pittsburgh Penguins came calling and signed him to another 1 year deal to try and prove he can still contribute.
His AAV (average annual value) is $2.5 million.
Mantha's recovery timeline puts him on track for October 7 season opener
Not long after he signed, Mantha said all signs point toward him being fully recovered in time to begin camp.
It's been a long time. I should be ready for camp. That was my main goal when I did get the surgery. It's going to be almost 10 months post-op at the start of camp. So I should be all set and running. I'll be ready. That's the ultimate goal.
Penguins banking on veteran winger's size, scoring touch in comeback season
Mantha has been dogged by allegations of being unmotivated and not giving full efforts in his previous stops with the Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals, and was often a healthy scratch in Washington under ex-coach Peter Laviolette.
But when he's on, he can remind fans and analysts of a prototypical power forward in the NHL. His best output was 48 points (25G, 23A) in 2018-19 with Detroit.
