Dallas Stars Forward May Be Top Offer Sheet Target for the Penguins

While the Pittsburgh Penguins could be looking to land some veteran names this summer, with their current haul of draft picks, they've also got the chance to land some key pieces of the future for this lineup.

With the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, the Penguins will look to land a franchise cornerstone, but that's not the only way they can land a young name, as they've now been linked to an offer sheet for a young Stars forward.

That young star would be Mavrik Bourque, who, according to The Hockey News would be a worthy offer sheet target this off-season, and at 23-years of age, he fits the profile of what Kyle Dubas and this organization should be looking for.

The former No. 30 overall draft pick got his first extended run at the NHL level this season, and after putting up 77 points in his final AHL season in 2023/24, he posted a solid 11 goals and 25 points in 73 games played for the Dallas Stars this past season.

There are definitely negatives to adding Bourque, as it would require the Penguins to give up likely a second-round draft pick in an offer sheet situation, but given the immense talent on display for a player that could learn under Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, it should be a no-brainer for Pittsburgh.

They won't be the only team eyeing Bourque however, as the Stars are right up against the salary cap with teams looking to take advantage, but for a Penguins team that's looking for young talents to lead them into the future, Bourque should tick every box for them.
