A lighthearted, funny moment emerged at Penguins practice today, where Evgeni Malkin was seen doing fake push-ups, which seems to not be the first time this year.

The streak is frustrating, but practice offered a lighter moment: Evgeni Malkin was spotted doing fake push-ups, a playful routine he's done more than once this season.

What Kyle Dubas has planned with Evgeni Malkin in February

Malkin has been playing at a noticeably higher level than last year, raising questions about his future with the team. Penguins GM Kyle Dubas is scheduled to meet with Malkin's representatives in February, a prearranged check-in that remains on track.
At 39, with his 40th birthday approaching in July, Malkin is closer to retirement than ever.
But sources suggest he wants at least one more season, even if it means taking less money or a reduced role to stay in Pittsburgh. The fun he showed in practice today highlights that he's still enjoying the game.

Why Evgeni Malkin's durability is a concern

That said, Malkin's durability is a concern. He has missed 12 or more games in 11 of the past 14 seasons. Any extension carries the risk that he won't play a full year.
The Penguins will eventually have to balance keeping a star in the lineup with the need to get younger and prepare for the future.
For now, Malkin remains one of Pittsburgh's best players. How the team handles his next contract will be closely watched, but his performance this season has given the organization plenty to be happy about.
