Another Team Possibly Linked to Rick Tocchet as Head Coach: Bidding War Coming
After Rick Tocchet departed the Vancouver Canucks, a number of teams have emerged as potential suitors, including a new surprise club.
The Vancouver Canucks became one of the NHL clubs looking for a new head coach
after the departure of Rick Tocchet, only a season after he won the Jack Adams Trophy as the League's top bench boss.
Immediately, a number of clubs emerged as suitors for Tocchet including the Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.
The Rangers have already filled their vacancy with former Penguins coach Mike Sullivan; Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are still looking for new coaches.
While the Anaheim Ducks have hired controversial former Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, Tab Bamford of Bleacher Report has suggested that Tocchet
could be an interesting fit in Chicago.
He's a great coach. This would be a big swing for the Blackhawks. And Chicago has shown a willingness to swing big already with the attempt to convince David Carle to leave DU for the NHL.
The big questions I have about Tocchet here aren't about him being a fit as the head coach; I think he would be a magnificent hire. I wonder about how the Blackhawks would sell the job to him when compared to other open NHL jobs, especially the Flyers for whom he played a big portion of his NHL career. I also wonder how his relationship with Luke Richardson might influence his willingness to take a call from a 312 phone number.
The Blackhawks fired Luke Richardson and replaced him with Rockford IceHogs coach Anders Sorenson, who went 17-30-9.
Would Tocchet be a fit with the Blackhawks, or would he want to come to a team closer to winning?
