Former Penguins Head Coach Retires After Long NHL Career
Michel Therrien coached the Penguins for three years heading into their Stanley Cup win, and now he's officially retired after a long career as a Head Coach.
Between the 2000 and 2017 seasons, Michel Therrien coached the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Montreal Canadiens to very differing success in the National Hockey League.
In that time, Therrien coached in 814 games, including leading the Penguins to the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals, but unfortunately for Therrien, he was fired before the team could find their glory in 2009 as they took revenge on the Red Wings for the previous years loss.

Then, the team was handed to Dan Bylsma, who would go on to lead the team to an iconic victory over the Detroit Red Wings, continuing on what Therrien had built during his two and a half years with the team.
Now, the 61-year old has taken to Montreal radio to officially announce his retirement from hockey, after last coaching as an assistant with the Philadelphia Flyers back in 2021.

While he never tasted Stanley Cup glory as a coach, the young core of Marc-Andre Fleury, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang were all shaped by the fiery Montreal native who made his mark wherever he went in the NHL.
Ultimately, he may not have tasted Stanley Cup glory, but he ends his career with a 408-303-82 record (with 23 ties in there), and will be remembered by many as a fantastic coach, entering retirement as one of the better regular season coaches of the past 25 years.
