Insider Proposes One-for-One Blockbuster Trade Between Penguins and Hurricanes in Cap-Savvy Move
The team want to get his cap hit off the board and a potential future asset while Karlsson would like the opportunity to win, and as of late, he's been linked to a team with the chance to do just that in the Carolina Hurricanes.
In his latest report for Bleacher Report,
Insider Frank Seravalli has suggested a surprise one-for-one deal with Carolina that involves another veteran defenseman in Shayne Gostisbehere.
Could the Hurricanes be a fit for Erik Karlsson?; Yeah, I could see that; let's say we could get our hands on Karlsson at $7.5m; how much better is Karlsson at $7.5 than Gostisbehere at a number much less than that?
Why a Trade Involving Gostisbehere and Karlsson Could Surprise Penguins Fans
On paper, this deal would be a solid move for the Penguins, as Gostisbehere has two years left on his deal at just $3.2 million per season, and while Karlsson is the much better player in the deal with Carolina having plenty of salary cap space, it's unclear just how willing they'd be to commit to Karlsson given his limitations.
Ultimately, the Penguins are set to move Karlsson whenever Kyle Dubas gets an offer that he deems worthy of the three-time Norris Trophy winner, and if Seravalli's suggestions are anything to go by, the eventual deal for Karlsson may end up being a shocker.
