Insider Reveals Top Landing Spot for Erik Karlsson Amid Stanley Cup Ambitions

The Pittsburgh Penguins are intent on moving some key veterans out this off-season, with the belief that defenseman Erik Karlsson is the most likely player to be traded before the 2025/26 season begins.

In a recent article, Bleacher Report linked Karlsson to the Dallas Stars in an intriguing trade proposal, but beyond that, his options certainly aren't as vast as some expected coming into the summer.

Now, Insider Frank Seravalli has narrowed Karlsson's landing spots down to just one team, noting that the Carolina Hurricanes are likely the only contending team that fits the mold for what Karlsson wants while also being able to fit him into their roster.

While Carolina make the most sense on paper, it's unclear if they want to go out and make another blockbuster trade this off-season after sending significant assets to the New York Rangers in a deal that landed them blue liner K'Andre Miller earlier this summer.

Add all this onto reports that Kyle Dubas is asking a tremendous amount for Karlsson, Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust, and it makes a trade coming together seem rather unlikely as we head towards training camp.

Ultimately though, Karlsson wants to win, and at this point in time, Pittsburgh likely can't offer him that, so the team could potentially look to retain money on him and ask for a little less in return, but if Carolina aren't interested, the options for trade partners around the league are looking slimmer and slimmer.
