Kyle Dubas Eyes Maple Leafs Superstar in Possible Blockbuster Reunion

The Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for three straight seasons, and with Sidney Crosby still playing at an elite level, they're looking to get back into the hunt before their iconic captain heads into retirement.

While many are looking at this team as one that should be building for the future, General Manager Kyle Dubas believes this organization needs to do right by Sidney Crosby, and that could mean being big buyers this summer.

It's always been a possibility that this team could target Mitch Marner, a player that Dubas was a part of drafting in Toronto as Assistant GM, and now, those whispers have grown louder and louder.

According to reports, Dubas absolutely loves Marner, and with the Maple Leafs potentially on their way to blowing another lead in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it could lead to No. 16 hitting the open market in the coming months.

Not only that, but Paul Bissonnette has now thrown gas on the fire, as he backed up this report on his latest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

There aren't many teams that can afford to pay Marner $14 million a year in free agency, but Pittsburgh are one of those teams, and with the potential to pair 16 with 87 on the same line, it's something the team may push for.

Even between now and free agency beginning, so many things could happen to make this situation change, but as of right now, if Marner hits free agency, don't be shocked to see the Penguins among the highest bidders for his services.
