Kyle Dubas was able to swing some trades on draft night, and now, he's revealed that there have been more trade conversations that haven't amounted to much.
The Pittsburgh Penguins started the 2025 NHL Draft with picks No. 11 and 12, but in the end, they landed three solid prospects, using picks No. 11, 22 and 24 on Ben Kindel, Bill Zonnon and Will Horcoff.
That's plenty of action for a team that was expected to make some big moves over the weekend and in the summer ahead, and after round one, General Manager Kyle Dubas addressed everything with the media.
Despite all these trades, one thing clearly stood out as intriguing from Dubas, who noted that he and the Penguins were involved in plenty of trade talks in recent days, but ultimately, nothing came together that he believed was worth pulling the trigger on.
There was no mention from Dubas about the Sidney Crosby chatter that picked up on Friday, with the Penguins shooting down these rumours earlier in the media session, as they have been completely debunked at this point.
Instead, these talks likely involve the JJ Peterka sweepstakes and the race to land Marco Rossi from the Minnesota Wild, but at this point we may never know, as Dubas appears to be playing his cards close to his chest once again.
With all of the draft day deals, this opens up bigger trades down the line with Dubas confident to pull the trigger on a trade, and while it's unlikely that we see anything big over the weekend from the Penguins now, with the likes of Rickard Rakell, Bryan Rust and Erik Karlsson all available, expect these trade talks to heat up in the coming weeks.
